Design Services

At Tina Vallis Garden and Landscape Design, we understand that each client has unique needs and preferences when it comes to their garden. To ensure that we meet these requirements, we offer a comprehensive design service that includes the following stages:

1. Initial Consultation: During this initial visit, Tina will look at the site and discuss your requirements, the style of garden you would like, problem areas, your budget, and the amount of time you have available for gardening. Tina will then provide a quotation for the design work or, in the case of larger projects, a quotation for the first stage of the design.

2. Site Survey: An accurate survey of the existing site is necessary before any design work can start. Tina will familiarize herself with your garden, noting views, features to be retained, slopes and levels, soil type, and prevailing winds. Tina measures smaller gardens herself, but larger or more complex sites require the services of a land surveyor.

3. Outline Plan: An outline plan is prepared showing landscape features, hard landscaping, and planted areas. This plan may be all that you require if you want to tackle a smaller project yourself. For larger projects, the outline plan allows Tina to present her ideas and talk through any other options or solutions to particular issues that may exist.

4. Layout Plan and Construction Plans: The final layout plan incorporates changes agreed with you and is the plan from which a contractor can estimate costs and build the garden. A setting out plan giving detailed measurements and construction details of specific features such as ponds, retaining structures, or hard surfaces may also be required and will be provided with the layout plan.

5. Planting Plans: The planting plan shows the position and quantity of all the plants in the design. Some clients prefer 'instant' gardens using large specimen plants, while others prefer to allow their gardens to mature over time. Your preference (and budget) will be discussed at the outset. Planting plans can be designed as part of a full design project or as stand-alone jobs if your garden simply needs additional planting to refresh or update an existing scheme.

6. 2 Hour Design Consultation: If you do not require a set of plans but would like advice and ideas about how to make the most of your garden, Tina offers a 2-hour on-site consultation to discuss ideas and offer design solutions.

7. Garden Renovation: Many clients buy properties with established gardens that are past their prime. Often the basic layout of the garden is sound or just needs adjusting slightly to fit with a modern lifestyle. Very often the planting has become tired or patchy. The garden renovation service aims to understand how you want to use the garden and to restore it appropriately back to its best.

8. Construction: Tina can recommend professional and reliable local contractors to transform her plans into beautiful and functional gardens that meet our clients' expectations.

Problem Gardens and Horticultural Expertise

At Tina Vallis Garden and Landscape Design, we understand that not all gardens are easy to work with. We have many years of experience finding attractive and practical solutions for awkwardly shaped sites, difficult slopes, or lack of privacy. Tina enjoys the challenge of creating manageable and beautiful gardens for her clients to enjoy.

Tina's experience and planting knowledge, particularly for the heavy clay soils many clients in Sussex and Kent possess, saves you from making costly and time-wasting mistakes. Her confident use of plants has resulted in many award-winning schemes. "Tina's planting was inspired, with the most stunning combination of colors and plants."
